1. General Info
Internship Duration: 5/8/17 – 8/18/17
Total Hours Worked: 584
For my internship during the summer of 2017 I had the unique opportunity to work as a BIM/VDC Intern for Robins & Morton out of their Charlotte office. I was assigned to several jobs over the course of the summer, but spent a majority of my time on the coordination effort of Carolinas HealthCare System North East Bedtower Expansion. But I also got the unique privilege of working on many other hospitals, one being the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital where we used laser scanners to determine floor flatness on all concrete pours. Another project took me up to Cherokee, North Carolina. We had already built and completed the Cherokee Indian Hospital in 2016 but were now tasked with helping the pre-construction efforts of laser scanning the exterior of the old building in order to fabricate an accurate revit model for the architects to use in the design and coordination of the renovation. In addition to those projects I also got to assist in the MEPFP coordination on a new Medical Office Building (MOB) at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. While my assignment this summer wasn't exactly had in mind in terms of an internship, it did turn out to be my most beneficial experience. In my many years of experience and internships in the filed of construction I have barely scratched the surface of what technology is being used. This summer opened my eyes to the future of the industry and gave me experience that not many will have.
